Roll the permit die, seat a storey on any tower, then try to land one of your five coloured skyways with a foot on each of two towers — at exactly the same height. Nothing snaps shut. If it falls, your turn is over.

A skyway only fits a city that happens to be level.

This is the real board, built from the real parts: every piece below is the shipped geometry, seated where the sockets actually put it.

The board is a street grid 8 blocks square with 9 numbered lots on it, 72 mm apart. Every lot is a 22 mm square socket, 0.8 mm deep.

A storey goes in plug first. Nothing holds it there but its own weight — and it lifts the next landing exactly 20 mm.

Two towers, one storey apart. The span takes the near socket and hangs 20 mm low at the far end, so it comes straight back off while the missing storey goes in.

Level now. Two feet 10 mm square drop into two sockets and the deck rides 0.6 mm clear of both rims.

The rest of the game: terraces reaching 24 mm out over open street, junctions throwing a deck 36 mm in four directions, spans at one level all across the city.

The arch carries the same 72 mm span 28 mm over the street instead of across it. A crown closes a socket for good. Still nothing has clicked.

How a piece is held21.6 mm plug in a 22 mm socket

The whole game is 0.4 mm.

Every piece carries the same two features: a square tray sunk 0.8 mm into its top, and a plug on its underside 0.4 mm smaller than that tray. 0.2 mm of air on each side is enough that a storey drops in without being pushed, and nowhere near enough to hold a tower that has started to lean.

The plug runs straight for its first 0.8 mm before the lead-in chamfer begins, so a piece bottoms out on the tray floor rather than wedging on the rim. That is why the arithmetic never drifts. The first landing sits 26 mm off the table and every storey after it adds 20 mm, and those are the only heights a skyway can ever sit at.

No two of the 11 shapes do the same job.

There are 20 storeys — 8 setback, 6 glass, 6 corncob — plus 8 terraces, 2 junctions, 4 crowns and 20 skyways, 5 to a colour with an arch among them. Then the board and the die.

The bare base plate: a white slab engraved with a street grid, with nine slightly recessed square lots numbered one to nine and a small north arrow at one edge.
Streets cut 0.6 mm deep on a 24 mm grid, and 9 lots numbered like a plat map, 72 mm between centres. The arrow at the edge is north, which matters only because somebody will argue about it.
