An add-on city for the Moonlit Atlas book

A cable car climbs a 13° hill toward Coit Tower, with the Golden Gate in its own red behind it. Three rows and a harbor plate for the Moonlit Atlas book, which is sold separately.

This set goes into the Moonlit Atlas book. Closed, the book is 8.1 × 6.7 × 2.5 in. Scroll to open it.

Press the brass button. The lid lifts, and three rows of San Francisco stand up with it, upright when the lid reaches 90°.

Down at street level, a red cable car sits tilted 13° on two rails, its grip reaching down to the cable slot.

Ten Painted Ladies step up the same grade to the crest, each a step higher than the last. Coit Tower stands on the hill above them.

Lights out. The car's windows, the houses, the towers and the stars glow on their own. It is glow filament: no batteries, no wires.

From the street to the bay

    Printed, layer lines and all

These pictures start from renders of the real CAD, which an image model turns into a printed set. A checker compares each one with its render, and we looked at every one as well: a picture that adds a part or changes a color is thrown out. Your own print's layer lines and colors will vary.

    Swaps with any city set

New York off, San Francisco on

The book comes with New York. Each row clicks onto its frame with two magnets and two V-keys, so lift it straight up and it comes free.

With the three rows off, lift New York's harbor plate out of the tray.

Drop in the San Francisco plate: the bay, with a container ship and a sailboat.

Set the rows on, back to front. The magnets pull each one home, and the cable car is back on its hill. New York waits for another night.

    What's in the pack

    The San Francisco set

4 printed pieces: three building rows and a harbor plate, 20 color regions between them, and 6 disc magnets (6 × 2 mm) that hold the rows to the book's frames.

    Weight
124 g 4.4 oz, slicer estimate for the printed pieces
    Print time
    4 h 53 min slicer estimate, PLA
    Parts in the file
26 20 printed color regions and 6 magnets
    Largest piece
    164 × 122.5 mm a building row; the harbor plate is 194.4 × 65.6 mm

    For the printer

    • PLA with a 0.4 mm nozzle, multi-material: 16 filament colors across the 20 regions.
    • Windows and the bridge-deck lights are glow-in-the-dark inlays, 0.8 mm deep. They glow brightest for 30 to 60 minutes after a lamp has charged them.
    • Rows print on their backs with the fronts up, and the plate prints flat. Every piece fits a 256 × 256 mm bed.
    • The buildings are at most 12 mm deep, so the rows fold flat when the lid closes. The smallest details are 1.2 mm wide.

    You also need the book

This pack is an add-on. It has no lid, tray, frames or springs of its own: it stands up in the Moonlit Atlas book, which is sold separately and comes with New York. Already have the book? Then this is all you print, and it swaps with any other city set.
