Its pouch is the bowl. Drop your keys in.
It sits by the door, beak up and pouch out, waiting for whatever is in your pockets.
From above it is a deep oval, fuller at the front and narrowing to the throat. Keys and an earbuds case sit below the rim.
The long upper beak rises high over the pouch, so your hand goes straight in. The neck curves down to the body in a soft S.
Each folded wing carries rows of carved feathers that run back to a pointed tail.
A round cream head and one small black eye on each side, watching over what you drop in.
8.4 in from the front of the pouch to the tail and 5.5 in to the top of the beak.
Up close
8.4 × 3.9 × 5.5 in, long and low. It takes a corner of an entry table or a nightstand without crowding the lamp.
A pelican's pouch is made for holding. Here it is the whole point: one deep bowl, open at the top, with the beak lifted clear of it.
The pouch is checked to hold a 2.4 × 1.8 × 0.6 in block below its rim. That is a set of keys and an earbuds case, with room around them for coins, rings and paper clips.
The dashed outline is the 2.4 × 1.8 × 0.6 in block.
One pelican in the box, pouch open and ready for your keys.
