Racer Mecha is a 9.8 in robot in red, white and gunmetal armour. Fold it by hand, in 7 moves, and it lies down as a 14.2 in open-wheel racer on 4 free-turning wheels. Nothing comes off and nothing is left over.
All of the car is already here: the front wheels ride on its shoulders, the rear wheels at its knees, and the nose on its back. Scroll, and your hands make the 7 moves that turn it into the car.
The helmet slides 1.0 in down into a pocket in the chest and stops on the pocket floor, clear of the nose that comes over next.
The nose cone and its front wing swing 180° from the robot's back, up over its shoulders. That is the front of the car.
Each fist turns 180° at the elbow and tucks up inside its white arm shell. The shells stay put and become the car's sidepods.
Each wedge boot turns 90° at the ankle and carries its half of the rear wing with it.
Each shin slides 0.8 in up into its thigh and stops at the end of its slot, pulling the rear wheels in toward the body.
The two wing halves turn 60° on their toe hinges and meet at the centre line as one rear wing.
Tip it onto its back and it sits on 4 free-turning wheels, 14.2 in nose to wing. Give it a push and it rolls.
Every piece of the robot has a job in the car. Here is where each one goes.
One toy, two shapes, and your hands are the only tool it needs.
