The game on a Christmas Eve dinner table beside a mug of cocoa: four brown reindeer round a pale blue pond, a little green tree in the middle and coloured ornaments on the ice

Reindeer Snack Attack

Four hungry reindeer, one frozen pond, 20 ornaments. Slap your present and grab the most.

Your hand is the only motor.

No batteries, no crank, no switch. Every lunge, every chomp and every turn of the tree starts with one slap on a present. Scroll to slap it.

Press the present

It sinks about 1/2 inch. A toothed stem inside turns a small gear, and the small gear turns a big one that pushes a rod toward the pond.

The head flips open

The rod's first nudge tips your reindeer's head back 43°, so its jaw is already wide before the body moves.

Then it pounces

The rest of the push slides the whole reindeer 1.1 in out onto the ice, jaw skimming the surface, scooping up whatever ornaments are in reach.

And the tree turns

Under the ice, the same push spins a hidden ring and the tree with it, about 30° a slap from any seat. Its paddles flick ornaments back out, so the pond never settles.

Let go to chomp

Release, and the lip snaps shut first. Then your reindeer drags its catch home, where the ornament drops through a hole and rolls into your stable.

Four seats. Four stables.

Each reindeer wears a scarf in the colour of its own stable, tucked in beside it. When the pond is empty, the fullest stable wins.

  1. Spread the ornaments

Tip all 20 onto the ice. The pond is a shallow bowl, so they roll back toward the tree.

  2. Slap and let go

A quick slap is a catch. Hold the present down and your reindeer just waits out on the ice with its mouth open, catching nothing.

  3. Count the stables

Every slap from anyone turns the tree and stirs the pond. Fast hands win, the way they always have.

Only two of you? Each player works two reindeer, one per hand.

Up close

Looking down on the game on a round wooden side table, a cup of cocoa and a plate of cookies at the edge
From above it is a plus of four seats, and there is still room on the table for the cookies.
One reindeer close up: round brown head, black eyes with white glints, a red nose on a cream muzzle and tan antlers
Big round head, red nose, cream muzzle. The lip is what shuts on the ornaments.
The tree in the middle of the pond: three green tiers, a gold star and three paddles low over the ice among red, gold, green and silver ornaments
The paddles at the foot of the tree are what keep knocking ornaments back into play.
The game on a kitchen table by a window, a mug of cocoa with marshmallows beside it for scale
Next to a mug of cocoa: roomy enough for four players, small enough to leave out on the kitchen table.

Made for the loud part of the holidays.

Good to know

Does it need batteries?

No. Nothing in it is powered. Each slap on a present opens the head, sends the reindeer out and turns the tree.

How many people can play?

2 to 4. There is a reindeer and a present for each of four seats; with two players, each works two reindeer, one per hand.

Why does the tree spin?

Every slap, from any seat, turns a ring hidden under the pond, and the tree sits on that ring. It turns about 30° a slap, and its paddles knock ornaments back out toward the reindeer.

What age is it for?

6 and up. The ornaments are small balls and there are small parts, so keep it away from children under 3. Keep fingers off the decks and out from under the pond while a game is on.

What is it made of?

PLA, in snow white, ice blue, pine green, gold, reindeer brown and each stable's own colour.
