Swivel Thumb Page Holder Moon Phases

Hook your thumb through the full Moon and read with one hand. The ring swivels; the wings keep the pages down.

How the ring moves

It starts at your thumb.

Your thumb goes through the cream ring in the middle: 1.15 in across, with a 0.87 in opening lined by 16 small ribs that keep it from sliding around.

A ball in a socket.

The outside of the ring is a slice of a ball, sitting in a round socket in the star. The socket closes in above and below it, so the ring cannot drop out.

It spins.

Turn your thumb and the ring turns with it, all the way round, while the star stays where you put it on the page.

It tilts, any way.

Tip your hand forward, back or to the side and the ring rocks on its ball to follow, so your thumb never fights the angle of the book.

The wings hold the pages.

Lay the star across the middle of an open book, one wing on each page. It is 4.2 × 2.1 × 0.4 in overall and weighs 11.8 g.

A month across the wings.

Waxing crescent, first quarter and waxing gibbous on the left, the full Moon in the ring, then waning gibbous, last quarter and waning crescent on the right.

Read with one hand.

Thumb in the ring, the book open on your palm, your other hand free for the tea. Lift, turn the page, set the star back down.

Up close

The star is 4.2 × 2.1 × 0.4 in and weighs 11.8 g, under half an ounce. That is wide enough to span both pages of a paperback or a hardcover and small enough to leave between the pages as a bookmark.

The Moon goes round the star.

Read the wings from left to right and the Moon fills, peaks in your thumb ring, then wanes again. Lit sides are desert tan, shadows ash gray, all set flush into the midnight blue. Pick a phase to find it on the star.

Good to know

Will it fit my thumb?

The ring's opening is 0.87 in across, and 0.83 in measured across the tips of its 16 grip ribs.

Can the ring come out?

No. The ring is a slice of a ball held in a round socket that closes in above and below it, so it spins and tilts but stays in the star.

How far does the ring move?

It spins all the way round and tilts in any direction, so it follows your thumb whichever way you hold the book.

Which way do the phases run?

Left to right through a month: waxing crescent, first quarter and waxing gibbous on the left wing, the full Moon in the ring, then waning gibbous, last quarter and waning crescent on the right wing.

How big and heavy is it?

4.2 × 2.1 × 0.4 in overall and 11.8 g, under half an ounce.
