Inside, a disc sandwiched between the face plate and the base rotates to one of three fixed stops, each stop lining up a different cluster of pierced stars with the openings on the face plate: Cassiopeia, then Cygnus, then the Little Dipper in Ursa Minor.

Three pieces, one stack. It comes as three pieces: the pierced face plate on top, a star disc that turns between them, and a flat base underneath. All three share four corner holes that keep the stack aligned as the disc turns, so the star openings never drift out of line with the fixed pattern on the face plate.
