The DIY House Becomes a Sensor for the Human Inside It
The DIY House becomes a sensor for the human inside it. Air quality, CO2, presence, light, noise, vibration — engineered into the structure.
At Autonomous, we bring intelligence to both tiny objects and big objects.
We've been working on a really big object. A DIY House. Packed with sensors and intelligence.
Three Years In
Three years ago, we shipped the first DIY House to a customer in San Francisco. It was a naive, ambitious, and insane idea: reinventing housing.
DIY House:
- Assembled in a day
- Affordable
- Delivered in a few days
- As easy as ordering a book on Amazon or an iPhone from Apple.

This Year, We Added Intelligence
After shipping thousands of DIY Houses, we added intelligence.
- It knows when you're focused
- When CO2 makes you foggy
- When light drops below your alertness thresholds
- When invisible factors drain you
The house becomes a sensor for the human inside it.
A Sensor for Your Work Environment
Whoop reads your body. Eight Sleep reads your sleep. The DIY House reads your work.
It's becoming the highest-resolution telemetry surface in your work life.

What's Inside
1. Air Quality Sensor: Sensirion SEN55
Measures particulate matter (PM2.5, PM10), volatile organic compounds, temperature, and humidity.
Outdoor pollution gets in. Furniture and cleaning products release VOCs. You feel it as fatigue at 3pm and don't know why. Now you do.
2. CO2 Sensor: Sensirion SCD41
Photoacoustic detection. The most accurate consumer-grade CO2 sensor available.
Above 1,000 ppm, cognitive performance drops measurably.

3. Presence Sensor: HLK-LD2410C
mmWave radar that detects you even when sitting still. It can see your breathing.
No camera. No microphone. Just radar bouncing off your chest. The house knows you're working. It doesn't need to watch you to know.

4. Smoke + CO + Gas Sensor: MiCS-5524 MEMS
This one sensor covers smoke, CO, and combustible gases. It tells you before you smell it.
5. Light Sensor: BH1750FVI
Measures lux from 1 to 65,535. Moonlight to direct sun.
Your circadian rhythm runs on light. Most spaces are under-lit by day and over-lit by night.
6. Noise Sensor: ICS-43434
Digital I2S microphone with calibrated dB output.
HVAC hum, distant traffic, your own keyboard. They all accumulate. The house measures the noise floor of your work, accurately. So you can fix it.
7. Vibration Sensor: Omron D7S-A0001
The same seismic sensor used in Japanese earthquake early-warning systems.
Why? Because the DIY House is a structure, and structures need to know when the ground moves.

All Sensors Are Visible to You
So you can see what's happening.
We aren't just adding sensors and AI. We want to create the highest-resolution telemetry surface in your life.
In your house.
