A yard of pins holds real meshing gears, and the game is played inside two facts of engineering: meshed gears turn opposite ways, and a loop with an odd number of them cannot turn at all. Each player owns one furrowed millstone gear standing on the yard's rim; a single crank gear is the only power in the box and it moves to a new rim pin at the start of every round, chosen by whoever leads that round. A turn is placing one gear — low-toothed, high-toothed, or a full-height tandem that bridges both heights — then turning the crank a quarter turn to prove you have not just bound the whole yard solid; at the end of the round the crank goes round once for real and only the mills that come up turning clockwise are grinding. 2-4 players · 35 min
