What do Employees Want in Remote Work Post Pandemic - Survey?
A remote work survey helps identify the challenges of remote working and the difficulties faced by employees. There have been researches targeted to study the impact of the transition to work from home for employees, but it is hard to find the most significant challenge faced by the employee during remote work.
In such cases, a remote work questionnaire is helpful in a hybrid workplace. A hybrid work survey defines the main challenges from workplace to workplace so each organization can take the relevant measures accordingly.
What is a Hybrid Workplace?
A hybrid work model combines both remote workers and in-office workers at flexible hours. A hybrid workforce is seen as the future of workplaces in the long term because of the many benefits of this model for both the employees and employers.
Work from Home Survey
The benefits of remote working have been realized both by the employees and employers. From employees getting freedom from dressing up each day for meetings to employers saving up on space and in-office expenses, work from home statistics tell a whole story for remote workers.
Seeing the benefits and rise in productivity because of the work from home and hybrid workforce, in the remote work survey, 74% of employees consider this to be a full-time practice and the future of workplaces. Big companies like Twitter have announced that they will use remote working as a part of their regular work routine. Secondly, only 3% of employees state that they would like to return to their professional work environments rather than sitting and working from home.
Based on the remote work survey, 58% of employees also reportedly said that they would like to keep working from home for their current position, or if they are asked to come back to the office, they would look for a new job with work from home flexibility.
After the pandemic, most responders (65%) indicated they wish to continue working from home full-time. Another 33% want a hybrid work arrangement, with only 2% stating that they wish to return to work full-time. Back to work questionnaires help find out such answers to questions and define the best approach in the workplace.
Benefits of a Work from Home Survey and Its Challenges
One of the major reasons for conducting this survey is not to push the employees unnecessarily to return to the workplace if they are too against it. This doesn't mean that a company has to give in to all what their employees say, but studying the survey and quantifying the results can help formulate the right approach that keeps the employees motivated and develops long-term goals for the company.
A major result of the remote work survey indicated that 27% of employees fear the change in routine, which they so hardly adjusted to as the pandemic rose. Another 26% find it hard to leave their kids and pets behind and get back to the office. At the same time, 34% have been pleased with no more involvement in office politics and enjoy working from their safe home office setup.
32% of employees are also concerned that their workplace will not give proper safety measures in this time of uncertainty. As much as these surveys help find the best part of work from routine, they also discover the challenges they face when working remotely.
One of the major benefits of working from home, as stated by the employees, is the saving on commute charges. In the remote work survey, 84% of employees are pleased with the huge savings on their money when they don't need to go and fro to the office. The statistics for employee saving states that 38% of employees save $5000 per year while working from home.
Home Office Statistics
This is one of the initial challenges faced by employees when switching to work from home. The sudden shift in the work routine urged many employees to set up their own working space, and as they realized that work from home is here to stay, they have come up with suitable options to create a safe working space.
Following the remote work survey, 24% of remote workers have their workspace dedicated for office purposes, while 34% have found a proper working corner covering their work needs.
Working from home does not imply working alone. You're still a member of a team and report to a manager. However, the dynamics of being managed remotely differ from those of being managed in person. Even though 14% of respondents stated it was more difficult to manage their employer's relationship, most respondents said they didn't need to hear from their boss regularly.
While employers, on the other hand, believe that managing remote workers is much more difficult than they had imagined it to be.
Not all employees have homes that are technologically equipped. Some employees lack strong internet connections and don't have a computer or working systems that can manage the project requirements.
Concerns about worker productivity and capacity to communicate with team members are why some businesses have shunned remote employment. On the other hand, the epidemic has provided a chance to examine worker productivity in real-time and under unusual conditions.
It is reported in the remote work survey that the majority of workers 55% indicated that working remotely has boosted their productivity, while nearly one-third 33% said it had remained the same. Only 6% of employees believe their productivity has dropped, while 6% are unsure.
How to Overcome Challenges of Remote Working
While it is logical to interpret that not all organizations are yet clear about what their workplace post-pandemic would look like, this ambiguity leads to a major burnout in employees. Employees who are significantly affected by the Covid crisis are majorly part of the people who state in surveys that they find remote working too challenging.
Organizations must be open about their approach and understand that this change has been hard on all employees. If an organization wishes to make hybrid work mode a constant part of its work routine, it is wise to carry out a planned approach for this method to work. One of the great ways is to apply the Autonomous hybrid working model and follow the tips and arrangements of a hybrid workplace.
